Sharpen Network Readiness Test

Overview

Checks whether a connection meets Sharpen's published network requirements for voice and gives a single pass, marginal, or fail verdict rather than raw numbers someone has to interpret.

It measures latency, jitter, download speed, and upload speed, then scores each against the thresholds in the Network Requirements article:

Alongside the headline figures, it reports best, typical, and peak latency, kernel-measured TCP round trip, and TCP retransmit counts, which are the closest indication of packet loss a browser can obtain. A Copy results button produces plain text formatted for pasting into a ticket.

The test runs over HTTPS in any browser, so unlike the existing Sharpen speed test, it does not require launching Chrome with special flags to unblock port 5060.

Important limitation. Speed and latency are measured against the nearest Cloudflare edge, not against Sharpen's voice servers, because those hosts do not answer web requests. Real latency along the media path is usually higher than what this reports, so a marginal result here should be treated as a failure. Retransmits indicate TCP trouble, not true RTP packet loss. This is a fast first-line check, not a replacement for the official speed test.

The test uses about 50 MB of data and takes up to 30 seconds. Other downloads or streaming running at the same time will show up in the result, so it is worth pausing them first. Everything runs in the browser, and nothing is stored.
