Overview
Transfer Switching is an optional Sharpen feature that allows an agent to alternate between two active phone lines, speaking privately with one party while the other remains on hold, without merging the two into a three-way conference call.
This is useful in situations where you need to relay information between two parties privately, such as consulting a supervisor before returning to a customer or coordinating between two parties without them speaking to each other directly.
Transfer Switching must be enabled on your account by a Sharpen representative. If this feature is not currently available to you, contact your account representative to enable it.
How It Works
When Transfer Switching is enabled, a Switch button appears in the Interaction Window beneath the party you are not currently connected to. Clicking Switch places your active party on hold and reconnects you with the other, allowing you to toggle back and forth as needed.
At any given time, you are speaking with only one party, the other remains on hold and cannot hear the conversation.
Common Use Cases
Customer service escalations — An agent handling a customer inquiry contacts a supervisor for guidance. Using Transfer Switching, the agent can discuss the issue privately with the supervisor and then return to the customer with a resolution or next steps.
Medical appointment coordination — A healthcare agent coordinates between a patient and a physician's office. The agent can confirm availability with the doctor's office privately, then switch back to the patient to finalize the appointment.
Technical support troubleshooting — A support agent mediates between a customer and a technical expert. The agent gathers troubleshooting steps from the expert privately, then returns to the customer with clear instructions.
Sales negotiations — A sales representative consults a manager or pricing team while a client is on the other line. The agent can discuss options internally and then switch back to the client with a tailored proposal.
